BUYING A PONY VIA THE INTERNET

Undeniably www.shetland-pony.com is a fantastic facility, putting buyers and sellers together, but here are some tips before purchase.

The adverts posted on this web site are posted by independent third party vendors. We can not warrant the accuracy of any information contained in these adverts, and exclude, to the fullest extent permitted by law, our liability for any losses (including, without limitation, our liability for any loss, damage, expense, costs or financial losses) which you may incur as a result of any use or reliance you may make of or put on such information. Users are advised to take such independent advice as is required in order to satisfy themselves that any horse/pony advertised on this group meets the criteria set out in the relevant advert and any other requirements (general or specific) which the purchaser may have.

1)Unless the seller is known to you, or is a well known breeder with a reputation to uphold, you must decide whether you BUY A PONY WITHOUT SEEING IT FIRST.

2) MAKE SURE THE PONY HAS A VALID PASSPORT & ITS MARKINGS CORRESPOND and the pony is

registered or transferred in the name of the vendor.

3) IF you live a long way away, you could ask someone near the pony whose opinion you respect to check the pony for

obvious faults, NOT A VETERINARY EXAMINATION unless you make arrangements, but obvious things like teeth, sweet itch, (often only detectable in summer months) correctness of passport. Reasonable expenses should be paid and would be a wise investment.

4) DO NOT ask or expect an opinion or confirmation as to whether the pony is 'show standard' that is a  judgement for you as the buyer. UNLESS YOU ARE TOTALLY HAPPY WITH THE VENDOR DO NOT BUY
